Cheshunt 2 Wycombe Wanderers 3

Two goals from Matt McClure and an Ambers’ own-goal were enough to earn the Blues a victory at Isthmian League Division One side Cheshunt.

Four trialists were included in the Wycombe squad and manager Gareth Ainsworth fielded a different eleven in each half.

The first-half line-up was stronger and the Blues led 2-0 at the break.

The opening goal was a deftly placed header from McClure following an inch-perfect cross from Nathan Evans.

McClure slotted home his second from close range following a mazy diagonal run and cross from Josh Scowen.

Apart from the goals, the opening half was notable for two long-range shots from Sam Wood, both on-target, and both requiring smart saves from the Ambers’ keeper.

The second-half was a different story as Wycombe’s lack of strength in depth made for a far more even game.

The home side were soon back on level terms through a brace from Tunde Adewunmi – the defending for both goals leaving a lot to be desired.

Wycombe’s winner came late in the game when Paris Cowan-Hall’s low cross was turned into his own net by Nic Barratt.
