It’s a big game for battered and bruised Blues

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Bournemouth on Saturday in their 18th league game of the season.

The league table currently shows Wycombe in 23rd place with 13 points and Bournemouth in 16th spot with 19 points, both sides having played 17 games.

B’mouth’s Away Record……W 3 – D 3 – L 3 – Pts 12…Ppg 1.33 (Rank-10)

Wycombe’s Home Record…W 1 – D 2 – L 5 – Pts 5…..Ppg 0.63 (Rank-24)

Bournemouth arrive at Adams Park hoping to extend their unbeaten away record to seven league games.

In a dismal start to the campaign, the Cherries lost six of their opening seven games to occupy 23rd spot and look a pale imitation of the side that reached the play-offs last season.

Since then manager Lee Bradbury has steadied the ship by picking up four wins and four draws from ten games to propel his side to the heady heights of 16th.

Bournemouth getting their act together is bad news for Wycombe, but their last two outings might offer some encouragement to the Blues.

Losing 6-0 at Brentford in the JPT will have dented their confidence, and letting a two goal lead slip to draw 3-3 at home to Gillingham in the FA Cup wasn’t the best response.

Still, at least the Cherries remain in the Cup and had some form to lose in the first place. Not so the Blues.

Were it not for a fortuitous goalkeeping blunder in stoppage time at Notts County, Wycombe would be coming into this game on the back of five consecutive defeats.

Their most recent setback against ten-man non-league Fleetwood Town was witnessed not only by the few hundred supporters who made the long trip north, but also by a large contingent of regulars who were unfortunate enough to find a live stream on the internet.

Anyone who didn’t catch it live had ample opportunity to watch ‘top of the bill’ ITV highlights which neatly encapsulated everything that’s been wrong with Wycombe this season. Keystone Cops finishing, ponderous defending, a lack of invention in midfield, and worst of all, the hangdog look of perpetual losers.

It was a woeful performance which really touched a nerve with the Wycombe fans.

The local paper ran an online poll asking if Gary Waddock should resign, and the message boards left the casual observer in no doubt that the manager’s long honeymoon period is over.

It’s only the middle of November and all that’s left is a six month relegation battle. To be honest that’s all most Wycombe fans expected this season, what they didn’t expect was to watch their team roll over and have its tummy tickled quite so readily.

We’re told that the management team have this week made a concentrated effort to address the current problems. Whether that will change anything on the pitch remains to be seen.
