On Saturday Wycombe Wanderers travel North to take on Accrington Stanley at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

Stanley currently sit 15th in the table with 13 points, courtesy of 4 wins, 1 draw and 7 defeats.

They have scored 14 goals (8 at home) and conceded 18 (9 at home).

They started the league season in fine fashion, winning 2 of their opening 3 fixtures, then went on a poor run, taking only 1 point from their next 7 games.

However, having won their last 2 games, Accrington are back in form just in time for Wycombe’s visit.

On Tuesday they beat Shrewsbury 2-1 at home and last Saturday they beat Luton by the same score at Kennilworth Road. The previous Saturday, they almost chalked up a win at home to Bradford, but after being 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go, they somehow contrived to lose 3-2.

Seven different players have scored league goals for Stanley this season. The pick of the bunch is Paul Mullin with 4 goals, whilst Terry Gornell and James Ryan have both scored 3 times.

Undefeated Wycombe are top of the table with 24 points, having picked up 6 wins and 6 draws from their 12 league fixtures.

The Blues have scored 14 goals (6 away from home) and have conceded 6 (2 away from home).

They have drawn their last 3 league games 1-1, the most recent being at Barnet on Tuesday evening.

In each of the last three games, The Wanderers have gone a goal behind and had to mount a comeback to preserve their unbeaten record.

Scott McGleish, Chris Zebroski and Mike Williamson are Wycombe’s top scorers with 3 league goals each.

Last Five Home Games
Accrington: WDLLW – 7 points

Last Five Away Games

This is only Accrington’s third season back in league football.

Last Season, Stanley put a damper on proceedings by winning 1-0 at Adams Park on the opening day of the season. Wycombe however, got their own back in February, winning the reverse fixture 2-0, with Goals from Scott McGleish and Leon Knight.

Two seasons ago, on their own turf, Stanley beat Wycombe 2-1, thanks to a last minute winner from Andy Mangan. Will Antwi had earlier equalised for The Blues. In the return fixture at Adams Park, Wycombe could only manage a 1-1 draw, with Kevin Betsy scoring for The Wanderers.

Wycombe Players Out Of The Game

Tommy Doherty (Final game of suspension)
Scott McGleish (Disciplined by manager)
Matt Bloomfield (Back in training but not yet ready)
Will Antwi (Foot injury)

There is no fresh news as yet, regarding Leon Johnson’s shoulder injury or Gavin Grant’s mysterious absence.

Manager Peter Taylor has a potential selection headache regarding his back four. If the immaculate Leon Johnson is fit to play and as expected, resumes his partnership with Mike Williamson in central defence, will that mean makeshift Right-Back David McCracken is relegated to the bench, in view of Lewis Hunt’s excellent debut in that position against Barnet on Tuesday.

After three successive draws, Wycombe have somehow managed to hang onto top spot in the league. Whilst the other close challengers have failed to take advantage, what has happened, is that the pack below have gained ground on the leaders. Only 5 points separate the Wanderers from 8th placed Darlington and it would be a boost for everyone if Wycombe could get back to winning ways this Saturday.
