Wycombe’s unbeaten run has now been extended to six games in all competitions following a 2-1 win against Cambridge United at home today, kicking off at 3pm.
Before the game began, new signing Fred Onyedima lapped Adams Park today, applauded by Chairboys fans.
The side was led out by Jack Grimmer, with Wycombe quickly taking hold of the game, getting a few chances in the first ten minutes but none were capitalised until great awareness from Garath McCleary allowed him to stay onside, collecting a ball from over the top before making a great run into the box before slotting past the keeper, the ball hitting the far corner, making it 1-0 to the Chairboys, continuing his great form after getting a goal against Blackpool, assist against Northampton and now scoring in the most recent fixture- Just proving that age is just a number when it comes to his footballing ability. A strong start for Wanderers.
However, just over ten minutes later, Cambridge equalised due to somewhat poor defending, a cross into the box converted, making it 1-1.
Wycombe were also forced into an early substitution in the aftermath of the goal, with Dan Udoh coming off with a concussion, replaced by Kieran Sadlier.
Wycombe kept going despite being equal once more, some good play down the wings which unfortunately didn’t result in any goals.
Early into the second half, Sadlier hit the bar from a tight angle, restoring the mood within the Wanderers fans, showing great attacking threat.
Humphries also tested the keeper with a shot from outside the box, the score remaining level however.
Wanderers were playing good football throughout the game, a few more chances not being converted, but the idea was there, and it was only a matter of time before Wycombe took the lead again in the 85th minute, with amazing play down the right wing with Grimmer collecting the ball in the box, passing over to Humphries who slots it home, making it 2-1.
The goalscorer was applauded off the pitch after he was replaced by Matt Butcher in stoppage time.
The final whistle was blown shortly after, with Wycombe finishing the game ninth in the League One table, only three points off Barnsley in third.
