4 days have passed since Wycombe announced that Tommy Mooney would be leaving the club and in his first interview since then, he has aimed some parting shots at MD Steve Hayes and the club itself.

This was a fairly predictable outcome with Tommy who’s short fuse is known by fans all over the country and he seems to be unable to accept the fact that he isn’t wanted here anymore!

Comments such as ‘Cost-cutting is the big thing there at the moment and it’s a slippery slope.’ and ‘If they had spent the cup cash they would have won promotion to League One and been looking forward to playing Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Millwall.’ sum up his inflated ego and if he’s trying to prove something to the club it seems that sour grapes seem to be at the top of the menu.

It always seemed that Mooney had a lot of ‘player power’ at the club and exerted a lot of influence over certain coaching staff and squad personnel and his absence from the club in my opinion will be beneficial.

This may sound me having a go at Tommy but he’s brought this on himself. If he gracefully departed then I would have remembered the couple of years of good service he gave us and some great moments along the way but it is outbursts like this that show he really isn’t going to be missed round these parts.

Any hopes of Mooney finding his 10th professional club quickly were dashed by Shrewsbury Town manager Gary Peters who was rumoured to be interested in him.

‘I like Tommy Mooney a lot as he is about the same age as me – I would have a lot in common with him as we would be able to chat about the war and things. Seriously though, Tommy is a great lad and a good player who did a great job for Wycombe last year. But he is not part of my plans.’
