It has been announced that Nathan Bishop’s loan deal has been terminated, and he makes the move to Cambridge UnitedÂ
The 25-year-old goalkeeper signed for Wycombe in the summer with a lot of anticipation after the Chairboys previously chased the goalkeeper under Gareth Ainsworth’s tenure.
Wycombe signed the goalkeeper from Sunderland on a season long loan with Matt Bloomfield looking to address what had been viewed as a troublesome position from the outside. Nathan Bishop had been on Wycombe’s radar before in 2022 as Gareth Ainsworth looked at bringing him initially to the club when he was contracted at Manchester United. However rumours that indecision on the part of United caused a delay to the deal, forcing Wycombe’s hands to look elsewhere and eventually signing Max Stryjek from Livingston.
Bishop started the campaign as the first choice goalkeeper, making his debut on the opening day of the season against Wrexham. However an injury sustained in the second league match against Birmingham City at Adams Park saw Bishop sidelined for a prolonged period. As the diagnosis appeared to involve an operation, Wycombe immediately brought in Shamal George from Livingstone to compete alongside Franco Ravizzoli. However with the team doing so well with Ravizzoli’s performances in goal, Bishop’s return has been met with frustration on the sidelines.
Bishop’s last game for the Chairboys came against Portsmouth in their FA Cup game, where he had to come on for the injured Shamal George early on in the second half.
