Anis Mehmeti is a player who will be remembered fondly in the hearts of many of the Wycombe Wanderers faithful for his stunning runs down the wing and link-up play with other attackers, he was truly an unstoppable force during his time in the third and second tier of English football.
Starting his career in the youth teams of Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur as a schoolboy, Mehmeti was certainly one to watch and eventually joined Norwich City in 2017, at only 16 years old, signing a contract extension three years later before joining Essex Senior League side, Woodford Town until March of 2020 when the league was unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In September of 2020, Anis joined Wycombe Wanderers, after a successful trial in the summer, who had been promoted to the Championship the previous season via the playoff final in a 2-1 victory over Buckinghamshire rivals, Oxford United. He started off in Wycombe’s ‘B-Team’, before being introduced to professional football in October of the same year, as a 79th minute substitute during a 2-1 loss to Milwall. He scored his first goal for the Chairboys in a 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers in December. He went on to make a total of 29 appearances for Wycombe that season, scoring three goals. However, Wycombe would find themselves back in League One after missing out on safety by only one point.
He signed a new contract in November of 2021, which was going to run until June 2024.
The following season, Mehmeti made a total of 38 appearances for Wycombe, 32 of which were in the League, scoring seven goals and assisting four, Wycombe finishing sixth that season and enjoying a play-off run, beating MK Dons in the semi-finals before losing to Sunderland in the final. However, Anis wasn’t part of any of those squads after picking up an injury against Gillingham in April, forced to come off after playing only ten minutes in that game.
Anis continued with his good form going into the 22/23 season, making 27 appearances, scoring nine and assisting three, a notable game being at home against Portsmouth in which he scored a fantastic goal in the 13th minute, before later assisting Garath McCleary who scored the second, sealing the win for Wycombe in the 87th minute.
On 31st January 2023, Mehmeti signed for Championship side, Bristol City on a three-and-a-half year deal. Even though the fee was undisclosed, it was a club-record for Wycombe Wanderers.
In his time with the blues, Anis made 88 appearances and scored a total of 19 goals.
He has since gone onto make himself a fan-favourite at Bristol, cementing himself as a starter for the Championship club, so far making 77 appearances and scoring 14 goals.
