Wycombe travel to Home Park tonight in the first round of the Carling Cup, a competition where we reached the significant stage of the semi-finals culminating in a plum tie against ex-Premiership champions, Chelsea.

However, with such a minor financial reward eventually being gained as well as an important distraction in the push for promotion that eventually faultered it seems that there wont be too many tears shed if Wycombe fall at the first hurdle. It is definitely important that Wycombe put across a good impression of themselves after an extremely rusty performance on Saturday.

Both managers have said that they will filly utilise their squads but Ian Holloway will have to do this without highly rated starlet Dan Gosling and winger Bojan Djordjic.

With Paul Lambert still unsure on his starting XI, it is expected that Tom Williams and Andre Boucaud are set to feature from the start after featuring from the bench on Saturday. It may also open the door for Jamie Young, who was unbeaten throughout pre-season and based on Scott Shearer’s few performances, the first impression is that Young is the safer alternative.
