Wycombe Wanderers entertain Mansfield Town on Saturday in their 25th league game of the season.

The Chairboys claimed all three points with a 2-0 win over Newport County at Adams Park on Boxing Day.

Stunning goals from Nathan Tyson and Adebayo Akinfenwa saw Wanderers bounce back from a disappointing 3-2 defeat at Coventry City four days earlier.

It was also a victory against a fellow promotion contender, a welcome occurrence for Wycombe who have beaten only one other top-half side, in the shape of Colchester United.

On the other hand, Wanderers are clinical against bottom-half sides, having collected a commendable average of 2.42 points-per-game against the strugglers, losing only once at Morecambe.

Their full record against teams currently in the top and bottom half of the table is as follows…

Vs Top-half teams………Pld: 12…W: 2…D: 5…L: 5…Pts: 11…Pts per game: 0.92

Vs Bottom-half teams…Pld: 12…W: 9…D: 2…L: 1…Pts: 29…Pts per game: 2.42

The Blues have won 11, drawn 7 and lost 6 league games in total, to lie 4th in the table with 40 points, one point less than they had at the same stage last season.

Only goal difference separates Gareth Ainsworth’s side from the final automatic promotion place occupied by Lincoln City.

Ainsworth made three changes to his starting line-up against the Exiles.

Dominic Gape, Eberechi Eze and Paris Cowan-Hall were all handed recalls. They replaced the injured Anthony Stewart along with Matt Bloomfield and Craig Mackail-Smith who both dropped to the bench.

With no newly reported injury concerns ahead of Saturday`s match, the club tweeted the following quote from Ainsworth this morning…

“We’re hopeful to have Adam El-Abd back. Scotty Kashket is nearly there – we just need to keep patient with him.”

Stewart picked up a calf injury at Coventry and is unlikely to be involved, while Marcus Bean has missed the last fortnight with a knee injury and remains doubtful.

Michael Harriman continues his rehabilitation after breaking a leg almost three months ago.

Loanee Josh Umerah has returned to parent club Charlton Athletic following ankle surgery.

Mansfield Town drew 1-1 with Grimsby Town at Blundell Park on Boxing Day thanks to a late equaliser from former Chairboy Lee Angol.

The Stags went into the game having snatched a late winner to beat Morecambe 2-1 at home three days earlier.

Steve Evans’ side have lost just one of their last 11 league matches but have drawn 6 of them.

With 9 wins, 10 draws and 5 defeats in total, the Stags are 8th in the table with 37 points, 7 points more than they had at the same stage last season.

Evans made four changes to his starting line-up again against the Mariners on Tuesday.

Krystian Pearce, Johnny Hunt, Jacob Mellis and Paul Anderson were all handed recalls to the side.

They replaced Rhys Bennett and Calum Butcher who dropped to the bench, while Malvind Benning and Paul Digby were left out of the squad altogether. Alfie Potter was recalled to the bench.

Evans has no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s trip to Adams Park.

David Mirfin has missed the last three months with a combination of knee and hamstring injuries and is unlikely to be involved, while Joel Byrom is still recovering after tearing his groin.
