Following yesterday’s 1-0 win over Chesterfield, here are some views on the game from the Spireites’ manager Jack Lester and a selection of their fans.

“Probably a 0-0 would have been about right,” said Lester, speaking to the BBC

“I thought our back four defended really, really well.”

“I don’t think Wycombe got in much, there was a slip and a save from Cameron in the first half, but it wasn’t from their good play.”

“It was that top end where we didn’t have enough. We got in down the sides a few times, and had we picked out the right man we’d have probably gone 1-0 up and we’d have gone on to win the game.”

“It was fine margins today, it was not a bad shot, but he kind of mishit it into the corner, and 0-0 would have been about right.”

“I didn’t feel they were going to score, but I didn’t really feel that we were either,” he said.

The Chesterfield fans weren’t too despondent.

“Not pretty by either team. We lacked the passing and pressing of recent games. Players look tired. Wycombe not great apart from the goal.”

“Final third let us down. Wycombe were looking for the beast at every opportunity.”

“To be fair, Wycombe do score for fun, so conceding just one goal from a midfielder must be a bonus.”

“There was no difference between the two teams today apart from the goal! They defended well, so did we. Neither midfield shone. They pumped a lot of balls into the box for Akinfenwa to challenge for. Dawson made a fantastic save and they hit the post. We had lots of possession and played the better football but created nothing. We only had them under pressure for the last few minutes.”

“Wycombe basically shut up shop, happy to keep a high defensive line and see out the 1-0.”

“Wycombe are unbeaten at home in 3 months and sitting very nicely towards the top of the table. This was always going to be a tough game but Jack will ensure they learn something from today. We will finish the season much closer to the play offs than the trapdoor, I’m sure of that.”

“We’re not the finished article yet by any means and Jack knows that. We’ll be fine.”

“Ainsworth has had 5 years to build his team and they’re still a League Two club. For all the problems Chesterfield have had over the last 3 years I don’t think there’s much between the teams. Jack Lester has not had the benefit of a transfer window yet.”

“Progress evident by the fact that Wycombe beat us 5-0 just over a year ago in our own backyard! On to the next one.”
