Following yesterday’s 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers, here are some views on the game from Donny’s manager Darren Ferguson and a selection of their fans.

“Wycombe thoroughly deserved the win,” Ferguson told the Sheffield Star

“I’m extremely disappointed with the result, and with the performance,” he said.

“That’s the first time we’ve had back-to-back defeats. The performance was miles away. In both boxes we were nowhere near good enough.”

“We worked on Wycombe, how they played, free kicks, throw ins, second balls – then they scored from two of them.”

“I have to apologise to the fans.”

‘We had great numbers here today and to be honest, I wouldn’t have been happy watching that.”

The Rovers fans don’t like this losing lark.

“Another poor performance. Didn’t deserve anything from it.”

“Losing Alfie May was a massive blow. His running was key to the good work Rovers did in the first half. We struggled for presence up top in the second.”

“Ball just wouldn’t fall for Rovers today. As for Wycombe; took their chances in the first half, then strangled the life out of the second.”

“I can confirm that the players are on holiday!! f**kin shite today!! With a title at stake, shocking performance.”

“Half decent first half, but we lacked composure in front of goal and failed to defend the second ball. Terrible second half.”

“The lads never really hit top gear today but also the ref was a bottler/homer. Stonewall penalty for a shove not given.”

“There’s a lot we can question at the moment. From the high of promotion, we’ve not taken charge of the title race. It’s not over yet but those seeds of doubt about mental attitude and desire have crept back in again. I hope DF can rouse them sufficiently to get over the line otherwise this season is going to finish on a right downer for everyone!”

“Our best players had chances to score and didn’t take them. The substitutions are questionable, but like last week they did not lose us the game.”

“Not for the first time this season, we created quite a few chances but couldn’t convert. Pressure squarely on us and it is of our own making – to lose out now would be a mega disappointment – some would say failure.”

“OK, the last three games have been well below par – but come on, we’ve had an unbelievable season. For most of it, it’s been good, entertaining football. We have the league’s top scorer on our books, a very good manager and a great bunch of players. And we’re still in pole position to win the title.”

“Alfie’s goal was a fluke. He had nothing to lose coming off the right wing with no one in the box. He had a poke at goal, it clipped the defender’s foot and looped over the very tall keeper. On the whole they were all crappy goals and Donny just looked like they could play another 90 minutes and still not score. Some pretty football but no end product!”

“Only person I can applaud today is Wycombe manager Ainsworth for coming over and applauding our fans. Showed more passion than our own team.”

“Second half was delayed by a kids’ penalty shootout taking place in the middle of the pitch. Both teams were ready. Could you make it up?”
