The Opposition View – Rotherham

Following last night’s two-all draw with Rotherham United, here are some views on the game from the Millers’ manager Steve Evans and a few of their fans.

Evans was critical of his side’s start to the game, but in the end he was disappointed not to take all three points.

‘First twenty minutes we were poor and couldn’t get into the game… we looked as if we were still on the coach to be honest,’ said the Millers boss.

‘We controlled the last twenty minutes of the first half, but we were delighted that there was only a goal in it because for the first twenty minutes we were all at sea.’

We had a few stern words to say in the dressing room, pointed a few fingers, and the reaction they gave us was tremendous.’

We got two great individual goals from Nardiello… two fantastic deliveries, two goals, and then it’s a corner and we’re undone by a set play.’

‘I’ve just said to (goalkeeper) Andy Warrington, it’s four yards out he heads it in from, he (Doherty) should have been picking his nose up in London City centre.’

‘We’re very fit, and we were desperately trying to win that game at the end, and I just don’t know how Kayode doesn’t score a winner, I think he’s headed it and it’s hit his own leg and come out.’

The Rotherham fans were reasonably content to take a point which keeps them firmly in the chase for automatic promotion.

‘Ok, so we were leading in a game where in all honesty I thought a point would be a good result, but we came from behind which shows tenacity and a will to win, so credit to the lads from that point of view.’

‘We were far from fluent last night and a little disjointed, which has often been the sign for a Millers team to capitulate and let their heads drop, but this didn’t happen last night. We kept plugging away and nearly came away with the three points. I would like to see the OddJob miss again. From where I was sitting he did everything right, headed it down etc, but the keeper made a good save. Finally, Pringle’s touch was off last night but he was still the only player who produced genuine chances.’

‘Oddjob and Revell won’t score 15 between them. They are only used as workhorses,or headless chicken -target men – a waste of time. Also route-one boomball is shocking to watch. With the players we have, we should be playing it on the floor.’

‘Decent point in the end although it does feel like two points dropped!’

‘I’m not so sure that last night was two points lost, at the start of the game I would have settled for a draw. We don’t seem to have the strategy, tactics or ability to ‘close down’ a game.’

‘All this panic because it’s ‘no longer in our hands’ is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. If we win all of our games we’ll win the title. If we win most of our games we’ll go up.’

‘5 points from last 8 games that’s automatic promotion form. Port Fail are in freefall with 5 points from last 8 games, so we’ve gained 10 points on them. They will fail, we will go up.’

‘A useful point but 9 minutes away from being all three. Warrington at fault AGAIN for Wycombe’s late equaliser, but at least Nardiello is back on form.’

‘Surprise no one’s mentioned the incident at last night’s game when Wycombe was supposed to give the ball back and he ran through trying to go round Warrington. Cheating sod.’

‘It was horrendous. I really think if the player had scored, there would have been a major incident. Evans was ‘having a word’ with the player at the final whistle. As he walked down the tunnel, the Millers fans were giving him some verbals. Evans stepped back and let the player go in front and signaled to the fans that the player deserved the stick they were giving him.’

‘Slow start, no urgency, sloppy passing, and a linesman and ref who weren’t up to it. For 45 nins we were awful. First goal was offside. Revell was clearly pushed in the back in the box and not for the first time all ignored by a useless official. Second half new ref and the Millers turned on the style and produced two really good goals to take the lead.

Then a most unsavoury moment when the ref dropped the ball to Wycombe unchallenged after an injury to Wycombe player whilst we had possession and they kicked it upfield towards Warro for us to regain possession when suddenly Wycombe’s No 10 chased after it and tried to score,Warro saved it fortunately, but then nearly a mass brawl, ref does nothing, worst thing is Wycombe player pleading innocence amidst chants of cheat cheat. If he had have scored the goal would have stood, disgusting unsporting moment Just when it looked like we would get all 3 points we failed to defend a corner.Even then Oddjob should have won it but failed to put it away.’
