Scunthorpe United 4 Wycombe Wanderers 1

Scunthorpe had the worst home record in the division before today’s game but that didn’t stop them walloping a woeful Wycombe.

The first goal arrived after only 5 minutes when the Blues failed to effectively clear a corner and Paul Reid eventually poked the ball past Nikki Bull.

A failure to clear another corner after 34 minutes resulted in several blocked shots before Andy Barcham fired home the second goal.

At the end of the first half Scunthorpe were reduced to ten-men when Michael O’Connor was sent off for kicking out at Craig Eastmond.

The faint hope that Wycombe might fare better with an extra man was dashed just two minutes after the restart when Barcham latched onto a clever through ball and slotted it past Bull to make it 3-0.

The fourth goal came after 55 minutes when Bull spilled a Josh Walker free-kick and Jon Parkin knocked in the rebound.

Matt McClure scored his first senior goal after 86 minutes to give the Blues a consolation.

Coming hot on the heels of their recent inglorious defeats to relegation rivals Yeovil and Walsall, today’s setback leaves the Chairboys up the creek without a paddle.

Line-up
Bull, McCoy, Doherty, Laing (Bloomfield 56), Basey, Hackett (Ainsworth 49), Eastmond, Lewis (Strevens 55), McNamee, Hayes, McClure.
