Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the signing of Will Norris from Portsmouth on a permanent basis.

The 31 year old has found game time at Portsmouth limited following an indifferent start to the campaign and the Championship club gave Norris permission to seek a move away from Fratton Park. Wycombe are said to have also beaten Barnsley in their pursuit of Norris. It’s believe that the Chairboys are keen for Norris to provide competition for current number one, Franco Ravizzoli. With Nathan Bishop providing the only back up for this position, Wycombe have moved quickly to address the situation and maintain competition across all positions.

Norris started his career with Royston Town before earning a move to Cambridge United where he made 84 appearances and helped the club gain promotion from the National League to the Football League. Three seasons later he gained a move to then Championship promotion seekers Wolverhampton Wanderers where he also achieved promotion. He however found game time limited as he only made two appearances in his three year period.  In between this, he spent a loan spell with Ipswich Town before being sold to Burnley. But again, Norris was left frustrated after only a handful of appearances and also spent half a season on loan at Peterborough United. During this spell with the Posh, he maintained 11 clean sheets in 24 appearances before Portsmouth snapped him up on a 3 year contract. Norris would go on to have his most successful period of his career as he was an ever present figure in the team that would go onto gaining promotion to the Championship. Not only did he maintain 19 clean sheets in 46 appearances, but he was also named in the League One team of the season.

It was announced that he was released by Portsmouth earlier today, before the announcement coming that he signed for the Chairboys in the last hour.

CFO Dan Rice said that “Will was the best keeper in League One last season” and that its “fantastic for us to bring him into Wycombe and add strength to our goalkeeping department.”
