Wanderers put their name into the second round draw of the Carabao Cup after winning 2-0 against Northampton Town.
The game began with Leahy leading the squad out after given the Captain’s armband, with Grimmer on the bench, possibly due to the injury suffered against Wrexham during Wycombe’s opening game of the season.
It wasn’t long before The Blues’ first chance, with Tafazolli getting on the end of a Leahy left footed cross into the box, only to be denied by a wonderful save from the keeper, with the resulting corner being headed wide.
However, Wycombe did not have a lot of time to dwell on previous chances, as Northampton Town were caught in possession inside their own half, with Konè passing to Udoh, who passed the ball into an open net.
Once again, Northampton were sloppy with the ball as it was lost in their own penalty area, but nothing came of it.
Hartridge channelled his inner wrestler with an interesting tackle to stop an attack from the home side, resulting in a yellow card.
Wycombe doubled their lead through an own goal from Northampton just before half time, after too much pressure.
Wycombe kicked off the second half and controlled most of the 45 minutes, not showing the home side much of the ball, creating a few chances but none in the back of the net.
Konè came off for McCleary after a great performance, showing great potential.
The game wasn’t short of controversy however, as Hartridge was sent off for time-wasting, having already been booked in the first half.
Shortly after, Jason McCarthy, Vokes and Grimmer came on for Harvie, Udoh and Tafazolli.
The referee blowed for full time after six minutes of added time, with Wycombe through to the second round.
