Wycombe did well to come from two goals behind tonight against Exeter at St James’ Park, keeping up their unbeaten streak.

Exeter had always been a difficult place to travel to for Wycombe, their last win at St James’ Park coming eight years ago in 2016. A notable fixture was also the boxing day clash against the two sides last year, in which the home side won 1-0, continuing Wycombe’s run in which they hadn’t won in 11 games, nearly a year later, things couldn’t be any more different, with Wycombe now going into the game haven won their last 11.

The game began in the worst way possible for Wanderers, as Exeter scored after only two minutes, the hosts found the net after Wycombe’s defence failed to clear from the penalty area, Alli the goal-scorer.

The Grecians continued to keep control of the game, stretching the defence through constant attacks, eventually breaking through and finding their second after a corner is deflected and Jack McMillan converts, with the Chairboys’ defence looking weak in the opening half an hour of the game.

However, Wycombe seemed to find an extra gear after the hosts doubled their lead, pulling one back after Joe Low headed home from a corner, certainly getting back into the game after this.

Wanderers finally began to take control, with a shot from close range saved by Exeter’s keeper, also saving a low Morley free kick.

Wycombe went into the second half with a new sense of urgency they couldn’t seem to find in the first 45 minutes, with Cameron Humphries finding the leveller just before the 55 minute mark, a beautiful shot into the bottom corner.

Shortly after, Garath McCleary made way for Dan Udoh, with 21 minutes left to play.

Exeter continued to attack, with some chances coming for the home side but they came to nothing, however they seemed to be well in-control of the game for a while, Wycombe doing well to keep them from regaining their lead, a free kick also only just over the bar for The Grecians.

Kone came off for Hanlan, while Onyedinma and Leahy coming off for Bez Lubala and Tyreeq Bakinson.

Udoh came close during the closing minute of normal time, the score remaining level as they entered stoppage time, four minutes added.

However, neither side found the winner and the score ended all level, 2-2.

Wycombe did well to come back from two behind, while it means the winning streak doesn’t reach the dozen mark, the unbeaten run has continued, Wanderers holding on and showing their quality, the game could have easily been lost, and just goes to show the standard for the side now.

Going into Reading on Saturday, Wycombe remain top of League One, currently two points above Wrexham having played a game less.
