Wycombe: The Opposition View

Following yesterday’s draw between Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham at Priestfield, here are some views from Gills’ manager Mark Stimson and a few of their fans.


Stimson told his club’s official website: ‘I thought we were very good against a side at the top of the league that has won a lot of games this year. For us to produce a performance like that, after an awful performance on Boxing day was very pleasing.’

He went on to say: ‘When you play that well, you have got to get points. It’s not often in games, especially against a team at the top of the league, that you play that well and don’t get anything. I am particularly pleased for the players and especially pleased for (goalscorer) Curtis Weston.”

The Gillingham boss told Kent Online: ‘The goal against us was comical. It was one of those which you don’t often see in a season.’


The Gills fans were about as impressed with Wycombe’s performance as I was with their facilities for visiting supporters.

Overall I thought we played some decent football. We were really the only side that was trying to play, can’t remember Wycombe having a single shot on goal, but they got the kind of luck you get when you’re up that end of the table. To be fair though we hardly tested their keeper either, although a couple of scrambles in their area could’ve gone anywhere. I’d be interested to know whether Wycombe consider yesterday to have been an off-day for them – I can’t imagine they’d have opened up a 5 point gap at the top playing like that.’
