Wycombe will be hoping to keep their three point lead over Wrexham at home against Barnsley tomorrow, kicking off at 7:45PM.
After failing to go five points ahead of Wrexham following their goalless stalemate last weekend against Northampton, Wycombe would be hoping to build off that performance against a much better side who are also aiming for promotion this campaign, Barnsley currently sitting at sixth in the League One table.
Last season, Wycombe’s games against Barnsley were interesting for all the wrong reasons, with the away fixture in the 23/24 campaign ending in a fumble from Max Strijek after he had fallen over following a ‘push’ from Sam Cosgrove before he netted the only goal in that game, Harry Boyes getting sent off in the aftermath.
In the reverse fixture that same season, Wycombe netted the first goal thanks to Dale Taylor, however it was cancelled out by Sam Cosgrove. The second half saw Wycombe again, score the first goal, but again, Barnsley quickly responded with a goal from Donovan Pines, Corey O’Keeffe and Conor Michael Grant, making the score 4-2. David Wheeler was also sent off within seconds of coming on as a 67th minute substitute, after kicking out at the Tykes’ third goal-scorer.
More recently, Wycombe’s away fixture against Barnsley in October ended with the points being shared.
Barnsley fell to late defeat against Stevenage last Saturday, after winning their previous three in the new year.
The Blues will be managed by caretaker manager, Sam Grace and his team who have so far collected four points out of a possible six. Questions were asked of his selection on Saturday, with Kone and Onyedinma dropping to the bench but Wycombe looked a lot more dangerous when they came on as substitutes. Furthermore, none of the five new signings made an appearance on Saturday as they settled in, but could possibly appear in this match.
