Wycombe’s unbeaten league run extended to 16 games today as they earned a point against fierce rivals Reading FC at Adams Park.
Four changes had been made since Tuesday nights’ game at Exeter with Grimmer, Bakinson, Udoh and Lubala handed a place in the starting XI.
Former Chairboys, Lewis Wing and Chem Campbell were started for The Royals.
The game was quite scrappy throughout, with the wind swirling the ball in every direction, making it difficult to make passes in the air, a Franco goal kick bouncing only just wide of the Reading goal with the keeper left stranded, a lucky escape for the visitors who then turned up the pressure on the Wycombe defence with a few set-pieces won.
However, it was Wycombe that broke the deadlock with a low cross from Grimmer finding Bez Lubala, who found the back of the net with 18 minutes played.
The Chairboys had a succession of corners shortly after which were cleared by Reading, Wycombe keeping control since their opener.
A defensive mess allowed Sam Smith to capitalise, his shot saved by Ravizzoli, but Harvey Knibbs was there to finish with the goalkeeper nowhere to be seen, the momentum now with The Royals, Charlie Savage shot from 20 yards out shortly after their leveller but it was saved by Franco.
A minute was added on before the referee called for half-time, level at the break.
Wycombe looked a lot better going into the second half, a low cross from Morley finding Udoh who very nearly finds the bottom corner. Pereira found his name in the referee’s book after taking too long to take a goal kick after what looked like a miscommunication between his defence, with Sam Smith booked for simulation in the box after, clearly looking for a penalty.
Changes were made shortly after the hour mark had passed, Richard Kone and Garath McCleary coming on for Dan Udoh and Beryly Lubala, Wycombe looking to find an extra gear and possibly the winner for this closely contested match, continuing to get close.
Luke Leahy came on for Tyreeq Bakinson with ten minutes left to play.
The closest Wycombe came was with a McCleary shot which was curled towards goal, but it was brilliantly saved by Reading’s keeper, Hanlan coming on for Onyedinma with two minutes left for Wycombe to try and find the winner but it never came, Wycombe having to settle for a point.
