Blues’ Views Ahead Of The Game

Wycombe manager Peter Taylor and midfielder John Mousinho have given their views ahead of Saturday’s game against Grimsby Town.


The hard working Mousinho was one of the few players to emerge with any credit from Tuesday’s shock drubbing at the hands of Shrewsbury Town and he has urged the team to put the defeat behind them quickly.

Mousinho told local paper The Bucks Free Press: ‘The only thing we can do now is pick ourselves up. We can`t dwell on it. We`ve got to move on. There`s too much at stake to let this performance affect us. Teams will be looking to see how we react after this defeat, they`ll be looking to see if it has harmed us and ruined our confidence.’

He went on to say: “Grimsby will be up for it. They`ve got a new manager and after seeing our result they`ll be after us. We`re going to have to react like a wounded animal and fight back. We can`t afford to let the season collapse around one bad result in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy. ‘

“We have to remember how this feels, remember how much it hurts and how embarrassed we feel and turn it into something positive. We haven`t become a bad side overnight but we`ve got to learn from this.’

“Nobody wanted to be part of the team that has suffered the club`s record defeat and there is only one way to remedy that and if we go on and win promotion no-one will remember Tuesday.

“We bounced back when we got beaten 4-0 by Birmingham in the League Cup and won our next four matches and we have to do exactly that again. We`ve got to prove this was a one-off and that teams can`t come to our patch and do that. ‘



Manager Peter Taylor took full responsibility for Tuesday’s defeat and looked ahead to the Grimsby game.

Taylor told the local paper: ‘I take most of the responsibility for that. I picked the team. I decided to rest the spine of our team and still try and win the game.I thought we could have gone through with the team that I picked but it wasn`t to be and that`s my fault.”

Regarding the tricky clash with Grimsby, who this week appointed Mike Newell as their new manager, Taylor said: ‘I am sure they will be running around an extra ten per-cent because it`s his first home game, but hopefully that doesn`t mean they are ten per-cent better players. It might be that they are too keen to impress and they could leave gaps.’

Taylor is sure The Chairboys will bounce back against the Mariners: ‘ I know people will be looking to see if we are affected by what happened on Tuesday but I`ve got no doubt we will respond well. Last year when they got beat six by Stockport they went off on a great run and there is not one bit of me that thinks the players will play with no confidence.”



Wycombe are undefeated in the League and sit at the top of the table. They are also yet to concede a goal on their travels this season and will be hoping to extend their superb run against Grimsby, who have yet to register a league victory.
