The first fixture of the 2013/14 season has been announced and Wycombe Wanderers will host Championship side Leicester City in the first round of the League Cup.

The fixture will take place in the week commencing Monday 5th August 2013, and will quickly follow on the heels of the opening day of the League Two season. The league fixtures are released in two days time, on Wednesday 19th June.

Leicester City will provide attractive, yet tough opposition on what will be their first ever visit to Adams Park for a competitive fixture. The Foxes have made the trip to the Chair Metropolis a few times for friendly matches but this time there is the prize of a second round place.

It is of course not the first time the sides have met competitively. I’m sure the Fosse still have nightmares about our trip to Filbert Street back on the 10th March 2001 for a F.A. Cup quarter-final tie.

Paul McCarthy’s header early in the second half was cancelled out by Muzzi Izzet’s equaliser before Roy Essandoh leapt like a salmon to send a now-iconic header into the top corner of the net in the last minute, sealing a magical 2-1 victory as the Chairboys made it through to a semi-final against Liverpool at Villa Park.

Manager Nigel Pearson has a big job on his hands this summer after the Foxes endured defeat in the most painful manner possible in the Championship play-off semi-finals just five weeks ago. They conceded an injury-time winner to Watford at Vicarage road within sixty seconds of missing a penalty that would have taken them into the final at Wembley.

The date and ticket prices for the first round tie with Leicester City at Adams Park will be confirmed shortly.
