Scott’s on the move because sitting on the bench is not for him

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for Wycombe striker Scott McGleish. Despite scoring 34 times in 71 appearances for Wanderers, including an impressive tally of 26 goals last term, the 34-year-old
has found himself with limited playing time in recent weeks. After speaking with Wycombe manager Peter Taylor, McGleish decided it was in his best interests to get some games under his belt and as a result he has signed a one-month loan deal with his former club Northampton earlier this week.

McGleish had his first training session with the Cobblers just today and givemefootball.com’s Mark Shail caught up with the experienced frontman ahead of this weekend’s trip to Walsall.

HOW DID THE MOVE TO NORTHAMPTON COME ABOUT?

I spoke to Peter Taylor and he said there were no guarantees in terms of the games I was going to play so we decided I would look to go out on loan and get some playing time. I’ve only been here at Northampton for two days and today was my first training session so I’m looking forward to the match against Walsall on Saturday.

WERE YOU DISAPPOINTED NOT TO HAVE STARTED MORE GAMES FOR WYCOMBE GIVEN YOUR GOALSCORING RECORD LAST SEASON?

It has been frustrating because at this stage of my career I felt I needed to be playing more regularly. Obviously I wanted to play my part at Wycombe but the manager has changed the system and he
evidently feels it doesn’t suit my style of play.

HAVE YOU STARTED MANY GAMES THIS SEASON?

I started the first six or seven matches and a few of the cup games. In total, I think I’ve been involved in 13 games but once the manager changed the system and played just one up front with two wider players supporting, my chances became more and more limited.
