Wycombe Wanderers’ manager Peter Taylor has confirmed he will be staying at the club despite speculation that he was about to resign.
According to some Sunday newspapers, Taylor was unhappy that Chairboys’ MD Steve Hayes had not even given him a budget for next season.
The Bucks Free Press has now reported that following 11th hour talks with Hayes, Taylor has been given his budget and has decided to stay.
Taylor had this to say:
‘I am happy to say that we are getting on with it. I think it is a sensible budget for Wycombe. Everyone would say that they want more but to me it`s acceptable.’
‘For me it gives us a chance. It’s not ideal but we will have to get on with it.’
Taylor feels that transfer targets have been lost and that he might have been able to keep captain Dave McCracken if budgets had been sorted out earlier.
‘If I had been in a position to bring in the people I was trying to, I believe we could have kept him (McCracken). I have been frustrated that all my efforts of getting these people lined up have been a waste of time.’ said Taylor.
The rumours of Taylor’s frustration surfaced amidst Steve Hayes’ bid to take over full control of the club in exchange for writing-off less than 50% of the club’s debt, most of which was accumulated under his stewardship and most of which is owed to him in the form of loan notes.
Hayes’ proposals require supporters’ groups to vote to remove existing safeguards which do not allow any one individual to own more than 25% of the club and which do not allow the club’s stadium Adams Park to be sold without their permission.
