The Opposition View

Following Wycombe’s 1-1 draw at Swindon Town yesterday afternoon, here are some views on the game from Robins’ manager Danny Wilson and a few of their fans.


Ruing the loss of two points after Wycombe’s late equaliser, Wilson told his club’s official website:

‘We let them in at the death. We started giving possession away and didn’t do the right things.’

‘The pressure we put ourselves under by not keeping hold of the ball was a worry. We didn’t do that well enough in the second half but we should have held out. It was a mistake at the back post, a combination of things.’

Wilson felt his side had enough chances to make the game safe and was particularly disappointed with the one they ‘spurned right at the end.’

‘Some of the play was very good,’ he said, ‘but we need to apply the finish. Whether we are trying to walk the ball into the net, I don’t know, but we will keep working at it.’

‘We need to be better at home,’ said Wilson, ‘especially in front of goal. That’s been our story for a little while and that’s why we can’t see teams off.



The Swindon fans had mixed views on Wycombe’s contribution to the game.

‘The mindless banging of that drum just about killed any chance of an atmosphere. If that din is played week in week out at Wycombe then I reckon they’re probably down a good 2,000 supporters just for that alone.

I’ve watched a lot of football at this level, and I think this is the best quality 3rd tier since we won it in 1996. Wycombe weren’t great, but I think on balance of play they should have won today. Zebroski, Betsy, Pittman and Phillips are all dangerous, it’s just we’ve got a better defence. Some people have very short memories. I heard a few saying, oh my god, we’re being out-played by Wycombe. But I remember a few years ago they gave us a football lesson at home in the league cup. Completely battered us with Easter and Betsy. They’ve been a respectable league side for a long time now.’


With positivity like that, there may be a job waiting for Spencer at WWFC Media.

Nothing wrong with a point away from home though, and with two home games in a row next week against bottom-six sides, things could soon be looking up.
