Following yesterday’s relegation, here are some views on the game from Orient manager Russell Slade and a few of their fans.

The Os boss acknowledged that Wycombe had taken the game to their hosts.

“It wasn’t pretty at times today and Wycombe threw everything at us, but we defended stoutly and managed to get the goals required to get us out of that situation,” said Slade, speaking to his club’s official website.

“Wycombe put us under immense pressure without really testing the keeper too much. Jamie only had one real shot to save and he did fantastically well with it.”

Praising the clinical finishing of his strikers, Slade said:

“I felt we were always a danger on the break but were giving the ball away too much to be a constant danger. But we held our nerve and it was a fantastic finish by Ryan for the first goal. Then there was great relief when Scott wrapped it up. He’s great to have around the place and I’m delighted he got the goal.”

The Orient fans were naturally relieved but spared a few thoughts for their relegated opponents.

‘We weren’t pretty today and based on the second half we didn’t deserve the win, but Wycombe only had one clear chance all game and despite having a lot of the ball, they didn’t create much, which is why they’ve gone down. Had Wycombe come up in 2006, they’d have stayed up as they had a better squad.’

‘Fair play to Wycombe, who gave it a good go today and in my opinion deserved to win the game and would have done so if they had a striker who could shoot. On that performance, they should be up there challenging in League Two next season if they keep most of their squad. Their fans were also a great bunch who were gracious in defeat.’

‘I suppose Wycombe fans will be wondering yet again why they got rid of Scotty who came back to haunt them a second time.’

‘That Jamie Jones save in the second half is what kept us up. I don’t think we would have come back to win if that had gone in.’

‘We got the result we needed and full credit goes to Russ and the lads, however we were second-best for large parts of the game especially in the 2nd half when we seemed content just to defend our penalty area.’

‘Fair play to them, they really gave it everything, and if they had a half decent centre forward they’d have won the game. They battered us in terms of possession and I thought their fans were great. I hope they come back up next year.’

‘It was a nice touch at the end of the game when the O’s players didn’t celebrate until Wycombe had left the pitch. I was also proud of the fans today – no taunting of Wycombe with ‘that’s why you’re going down’ etc. I know how gutted I would feel if we went down.’
