The Opposition View

Following yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Southend United, here are some views on the game from Shrimpers’ manager Steve Tilson and a few of their fans.



Tilson was disappointed to only take a point and felt his side deserved more.

Speaking to his club’s official website, he said: ‘I thought we were excellent and individually I thought we were better than them.’

He described his players as lively in attack and said ‘We had the chances, but it just didn’t fall for us in front of goal to win the game, but if we keep playing like that, we will win more games than we lose.’

The Southend boss made mention of striker Dougie Freedman’s second-half penalty claim but said nothing about the foul on goal-bound Wycombe striker Jon-Paul Pittman shortly beforehand.

He was also dismayed to concede the opening goal from a set piece, but added: ‘We scored at the right time with one of our own. The short corner worked and Jean Francois was scored an excellent header.’

After three draws so far this season Tilson summed-up his thoughts by saying: ‘If I’m honest we could have been in the top four by now, but we are still unbeaten and we are certainly going in the right direction, we’re still gelling as a team and getting better.’



The Southend fans were also disappointed not to have taken all three points.

Yes, Matt Harrold didn’t score many for us but his team contribution helped our side to many wins. Shame some people didn’t see any of that and just got their kicks out of deriding the poor bloke. Good luck to him. Hope it all works out well for him at Wycombe and he’s able to relax and enjoy his game a bit more now. Anyone know whether the Wycombe fans boo him as a motivation tactic?’

Next up Norwich City, where the only way we’ll match Colchester’s recent 7 goal spree is if the Canaries play Delia Smith in goal – and even then I wouldn’t put money on it.
