In the wake of yesterday`s 3-1 defeat at home to Burton Albion, here are some thoughts on the game from the Brewers` manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and a few of their fans.

“Togetherness, determination and a really good group performance,” said Hasselbaink when asked what pleased him most about his side’s performance.

“We were solid in a lot of aspects of the game and at times we passed it well,” he said.

“It was what I expected from Wycombe. I`ve seen them on video and this is how they play – they wear you down, and that’s why they have been so successful because they keep on going. Even with ten men they have got a really good spirit.”

“We needed to match that spirit and we also needed to match the ability on the floor and I think we did that. At times we were better than them at passing the ball, and I think that made the difference.”

The Burton fans were pleasantly surprised.

“Amazing win tonight. Let’s push on and beat Luton Town on Saturday and Welcome Jimmy to the Pirelli Stadium.”

“Great stuff and a superb start for Jimmy. But a word of caution that Luton will be a hell of a lot tougher opposition than Wycombe who I thought were poor. Still a cracking result though.”

“Wycombe are not where they are in the table without reason, they are a good side and work hard. Too bad for them injuries, suspensions and no reserve team to pull from make it difficult.’

“We restricted Wycombe’s game which made them look poor to be honest. Good all round performance and a great start for Jimmy. Palmer and Lenihan controlled the midfield.”

‘It’s an encouraging start but we shouldn’t get carried away. Forget about the football what I liked was the team spirit and togetherness the players were showing, when we were defending we looked up for it.’

“Spirited performance from the Albion – even in the warm up they looked up for it. Lenihan is that gritty midfielder we need and Beavon and McDonald ran their socks off.”

“Considering both teams are near the top think it was poor to be honest. Be nice to see someone put their foot on the ball.”

“Good away performance. Thought Wycombe looked the more dangerous first-half and caused problems down the right a few times, didn’t feel we created much. Second-half we worked hard to stifle all their attacks. Scored a couple of great goals on the counter, but also slightly fortunate Wycombe were without Aaron Pierre at CB.”

“What sort of fans leave in droves with a few minutes to go despite one of their players being down injured and being attended to be the club doctor – shocking! Well done to our fans for giving the lad sustained applause when he finally could get up and leave the pitch. Also well done Gareth Ainsworth who was gracious towards the Brewers in his after match interview- so much better than the whingers like Mark Yates.”

‘That was classless from Ephraim there. One of the worst showcases of sportsmanship I’ve seen.’

‘Not a great performance from either side tonight, but this could be a crucial win for Burton. Glad I could be there to see it!’

“We should beat a team who’s manager is dressed like he’s going nightclubbing.”
