The Opposition View – Huddersfield

In the wake of last night’s humiliating 6-0 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town, here are some views on the game from the Terriers’ manager Lee Clark and a few watching fans.

“Tonight’s performance was sensational,” said Clarke.

“We stopped Wycombe gaining any territory. We didn’t allow them to push us back and held a very good line. We looked solid and when we cleared our lines, we cleared the ball over their back four forcing them to turn. In attack we showed great movement and pace and delivered the ball superbly.”

“It could have been double figures without being disrespectful to Wycombe.”

The Huddersfield fans were delighted with the result but were conscious of the poor quality of the opposition. Here’s a small selection of their kinder posts.

“We were good but Wycombe were the worst team I have EVER seen. We thought our defence was bad, but that was proper carry-on defending!!! I don’t think we really got going and yet we should have been well into double figures!’

“With 80 minutes gone we’re 6-0 up away from home playing exhibition keep ball when Oscar gets caught in possession in front of the dugout and Lee Clark goes absolutely mental on the touch line. I thought it was hilarious but it demonstrates the focus and the demands he makes of his players.’

“Every player got stuck in. Every single one. Gobern and Miller pressured the Wycombe players at every opportunity and the entire team never let them settle on the ball.’

“That has to be the most one-sided game I’ve ever seen. I heard some boos, not that I blame them, losing 6-0 and being totally outclassed by anyone at home is an utter disgrace. Especially if I heard right that Wycombe have lost 8 at home this season? Waddock’s obsession with turning Wycombe into Aldershot is dragging them down.’

“Grant Basey must hate playing against us, he gets rinsed every time. Surely he isn’t that bad every week?’

“I don’t think we played that much better than we have recently, it’s just that Wycombe put us under zero pressure and sat and watched us stroll through. Can’t see how they won’t go down.’

“Apart from Rhodes’ goals, the best thing was that we kept at it for a full shift. At 3-0, I was expecting a different game in the second half, but the players carried on where they left off when it would have been easier to take their foot off the gas. The commitment on show tonight is what gets you promoted.’

“Wycombe were absolutely dreadful, and I say this as someone who’s quite accustomed to Ryman Premier standard football.’
