In the wake of last night`s heartbreaking last minute defeat to Leicester City, here are some comments from their manager Nigel Pearson and some of the Foxes supporters.

Pearson was clearly a relieved man and expressed his satisfaction as the Foxes narrowly progressed to the second stage of the League Cup.

‘It`s good to negotiate it and get through to the next round, in 90 minutes too which is a bonus, but there we are, we`re through to the next round and that`s all that matters’ the Leicester boss reflected.

‘We`re two games into a season where we’re trying a different system (3-5-2). I don`t think we started the game well enough and we caused ourselves problems in terms of our pass selection and how we went about it but there were some pleasing aspects as well’.

‘Our set plays throughout the game were pretty good and to score from one at the end is satisfying because the player have worked hard at that. We’ve not done that often enough’
said Pearson.

The Leicester manager also had some praise for the hosts:

‘Competitions are always going to throw up difficult games and we were expected to win this`.

‘They had nothing to lose and I thought it was a good game of football`.

‘Both sides wanted to win it and we got that late goal, we had plenty of chances and they have scored a strike that is of exceptional quality’.

Most of the Leicester fans knew they had been given a good game, had mixed views on their own performance, but were also impressed with a number of our players.

The following extracts are taken from FoxesTalk and Twitter.

Wattolcfc ‘Can`t even keep a clean sheet against a side like Wycombe – shocking’.

KentFoxSteve ‘Kuffour has talent, he was good for the Gills’.

Jonaldinho ‘Their goal was a worldy’.

DMUFox ‘Seen us play well & lose too many times. For now just winning will do just fine, let’s hope to see an improvement in performances as time goes on & the players get more into the season. Least we’re into the next round and banana skin avoided’.

Col city fan ‘Was always going to be a tough game as they aren’t a bad side. The only thing that matters today is the victory. Everything else can wait until Sunday IMO’.

SmithyFox12 ‘Fair play to Wycombe, played well and made things very hard for us and I’m sure we wouldn’t be wouldn’t be coming away with a win if it wasn’t for Wes Morgan’.

Ttfn ‘We played very nicely for 20 minutes, taking the lead deservedly. Then their number 18, Kuffour (who was absolutely excellent throughout) scored a great goal and we never really recovered. 3 or 4 really decent corners at the end helped build the pressure leading up to the goal which was encouraging’.

Justfoxes ‘Fair play Wycombe, you did the League cup proud tonight, well played!’.

@lcfccharlie ‘Hope Wycombe do well this year. Nice set up, friendly stewards, some championship clubs should take note and they played some good football’.

@jovanmatijas ‘Wycombe were very organised and defended well. Can see them having a good season. Felt like a pre season friendly’.

@luke_gudgeon ‘Very happy with the result against a very competitive and dangerous Wycombe side’.

@BillyBobBliss ‘A few of Wycombe`s players looked good to be fair’.

@SenorBott ‘Very impressed with 2 Wycombe players in particular last night. Anthony Stewart was a beast of a defender and only 21. The guy was a machine. The other Wycombe player that impressed me was Kortney Hause, I had to Google him and he`s only 18. Worth keeping an eye on’.

A few of the Foxes supporters had also not forgotten the past, and reflected on the irony of a last minute 2-1 winner in the Cup!

@Blain1King ‘We owed Wycombe that the *****. #Essandoh’.

@hueylad ‘Wycombe left to rue the fact that Teletext has been discontinued #noEssandoh’.

ChrisRWhiting ’95th minute winner to win 2-1 in the cup! Sound familiar, Wycombe Wanderers?!’.
