The Opposition View – Lincoln City

Following yesterday’s disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Lincoln City, here are some views on the game from the Imps’ manager Steve Tilson and a few of their fans.

Tilson was delighted to see his previously goal-shy side find the Wycombe net twice.

“The pleasing thing for me was that we were getting labelled a side that never scores many goals – which is true – but today we’ve gone and scored two goals away from home and could probably have scored three or four,” he told BBC Lincolnshire.

“It was the worst start possible,” said Tilson. “Coming away from home against a decent side you want to keep the first ten minutes as tight as possible, so to go one-nil down was not the greatest of starts but fair play to the lads, they showed good character and spirit to get back in the game, and maybe we looked the more prominent side.”

“It was a very open game today from two sides trying to win the game. Once we scored the second goal I felt that we probably looked the side that could have gone on and won it. It was a good game of football.”

The Lincoln fans were pleased with a draw but knew they came close to taking all three points.

‘After going one down after 46 seconds we did well to turn it round, previously that would have been game over. Wycombe didn’t get going in the second half and if any team was to score a winner it would have been us.’

‘Our best performance for a very long time and it seems that Tilly & Co have begun the rejuvenation of this team – we had a very good second half spell and could easily have taken all three points.’

‘A very good 2-2 draw and we could even have won it had Broughton’s effort been a bit lower and not hit the bar.’

‘That was the best Imps performance we have witnessed this season, especially the second half. At times we played some decent stuff. Really like the look of Hoyte, and Howells was inspirational. How Broughton didn’t register his first goal of the season I just don’t know; two glorious chances with a header in the first half and then the one late on when he hit the bar.’

‘All in all a fantastic point against an impressive side and a performance that we should take forward into the rest of the season with confidence.’

‘We really were all over them in the second half, they hardly threatened and it made a nice change to watch an away game where we were in control.’

‘Second half Wycombe offered zero goal threat and if anything we looked like the home side.’

‘Their fans were the worst I have seen in a long while. Our lads were easily the loudest! Best game that I have seen the Imps play this season.’

‘I’ve never seen a player as good as Gareth Ainsworth in a City shirt, I must have been about ten when he was with us and you could just tell he was just so much better than anyone else. And he didn’t look that bad today…..I had stop myself from cheering him when he put in that tough challenge to pick up his yellow.’

‘Quality player. I thought he looked good first half, but he tired big time in the second.’
