The Opposition View – Millwall

Following Wycombe’s 2-1 defeat at home to Millwall in the Carling Cup last night, here are some views on the game from the Lions’ manager Kenny Jackett and a couple of their fans.

Jackett was pleased to record his second consecutive win of the new season and insisted that he fielded the strongest side available to him.

“We’ve won two out of two,” he said. “The starting eleven was as strong as we had, and had it been a league game I probably would have done exactly the same.”

Acknowledging that Wycombe gave his side a fright, Jackett said:

“We took our foot off the gas and there’s some frustration on our part that we let the game slip away in the second half, but we’ve come away with the win. We picked it up as we went into extra time and sorted ourselves out. You have to earn everything in this game.”

I could only find a couple of football-related comments from The Lions’ fans.

Gunner Brian Gambill wrote:
‘There was no lack of effort on our part. Wycombe looked pretty poor first half and we could have gone in 3 up. We looked a considerable class above. Second half Wycombe improved and took the game to us. They were the better side. Their winger Phillips looks a class act and will go on to better things.’

‘First half we kept the ball well and looked decent. Second half people began getting tired and we fizzed out of the game, Wycombe looked more likely to nick it. Extra time we came back into the game with the introductions of Dunney in centre mid and Marquis up front with Harris, Well worked goal and we hung on.’

Next Game: Stockport v Wycombe – 14th August – 3.00pm
