Following Forest’s cruise into the third round of the League Cup at Adams Park last night, manager Steve McLaren paid tribute to his team’s fast start as they went on to record a 4-1 victory.
He said: ‘I thought we dominated the midfield area and it was important because of the impetus we got from that.’
‘We started well and that was the key thing – we were on the front foot for the first 20 minutes and created problems for them.’
‘We scored the two goals early on and it helped to put us in control and set the tone for us and some of the passing and movement from us was excellent.’
‘Lewis and Raddy (Majewski) can certainly play and when they’ve got space to play and they’ve got runners like (Ishmael) Miller and Robbie Findley going in behind, it’s a big asset.’
Wanderers boss Gary Waddock gave a frank assessment afterwards: ‘We had a mountain to climb after six minutes.’
‘We did okay in the second half and Ben Harding, Kadeem (Harris) and Jordan (Ibe) were very bright for us when they came on so that’s three positives there.’
‘We kept going and at times we were able to pass it around but they punished us with their strength, their pace and their know-how.’
‘I was pleased with my team’s attitude and commitment because you’ve just got to look at their line-up and how much it’s cost to put together.’
Over a thousand Forest fans made the trip to South Bucks and will have been encouraged by what they saw.

He’s a very good young manager in my opinion and plays the game properly, on the deck. ‘It may have been ‘only Wycombe’ – but we were really good tonight – sharpest we’ve been all season. Miller makes a huge difference upfront – the Wycombe defence didn’t have an answer for him. I don’t think it would have flattered us if we scored 7 or 8 tonight. Great game, Wycombe’s a lovely club and the flying entertainment they put on for us the icing on the cake!’

‘Lastly, a word must go to Wycombe Wanderers as a club. It made such a nice change to go to a well run ground, with friendly but efficient stewarding, decent (if small in number) fans, a bar in the ground that was accepting of away fans and reasonably priced food.’
One dreads to think what grounds in the Championship clubs charge for a pie if they think our food is reasonably priced.
