The Opposition View – Oxford United

In the wake of yesterday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to Oxford United, here are some views on the game from the Us’ manager Chris Wilder and a few of their fans.

“The two centre-halves from Wycombe might be a little bit tired because I thought our front two were excellent,” said the Oxford boss.

“Generally, it was an all-round, good performance but I’m a bit disappointed with their goal. We gave it away in a poor position and we need to be a bit more professional, especially when we’ve just gone 2-0 up and the game should be dead and buried.”

“We’ve given them a lifeline, and to be fair, they’ve shown a lot of spirit, which I always thought they would do with their manager.”

“But the third goal was a really important one for us,” said Wilder.

The Oxford fans didn’t have a kind word to say about Wycombe and took great delight in ending a sequence of six straight league defeats on the road.

‘We played well and thoroughly deserved to win. That said however, I have never seen a Wycombe side so weak, in fact they were as bad as any team we have played so far this season.’

‘A very well deserved win. Two great goals by Constable and Craddock, also nice to see a defender score. Oh and Wycombe are very poor. Worse than Accrington.’

‘All you Wilder lovers will probably be creaming your pants after this lucky away win at Wycombe. But FFS, they are simply no more than a small time non-league outfit managed by an ageing rocker.’

‘Great win today, but blimey how many times did we give the ball away. In other games we would be punished.’

‘What a strike from Tommy Craddock. He made a difficult skill look easy – volleying a bouncing ball that took ages to come down into the roof of the net from 20 yards for a great goal. Constable’s strike also fizzed into the goal from 20 yards.’

‘Credit to the ref for not blowing when their keeper dropped the ball, it seems to be an automatic reaction to give the keeper a free kick when that happens, even though it’s no foul.’

‘Dodgy penalty. Looked like a dive. It was the only way they were going to score.’

‘The Wycombe support was a joke. In fact the whole day was all about Oxford. I didn’t see a Wycombe fan all day in the pubs before the game. Once in the ground all you could hear was a drum and even that was out of tune! Poor, poor effort from Wycombe on their derby day!’

‘Go easy on ’em lads, crap team and serious off field problems. I can see them slowly sliding to non-league oblivion never to return.’
