The Opposition View – Walsall

Following yesterday’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Walsall, here are some views on the game from the Saddlers’ manager Dean Smith and a few of their fans.

The Walsall boss was delighted to see his side salvage a point after going a goal down.

“It’s always hard when you go a goal behind as you’re chasing the game, but I’ve got a resilient bunch of lads here and they got their just rewards in the end,” he said.

“We started the game brightly and were the better team going into the interval. We managed to keep them quiet, which isn’t easy, but we didn’t start the second half well enough and I was disappointed with the goal that we conceded.”

“It got their tails up, but we managed to grow as the second half went on and deserved our equaliser. The positive thing is that we’ve managed to come from behind and extended our unbeaten run,” said a relieved Smith.

The Walsall fans knew how lucky they were to get a point and weren’t optimistic about their team’s prospects for the rest of the season.

‘At half time it looked nailed on for 0-0 as they didn’t look like they could win it and we didn’t appear to think we could. What concerns me is, if they hadn’t made a mistake we’d never have scored.’

‘Given that we were dire again, I’m chuffed with a point. We’re paupers as far as budgets in this league are concerned. But on the other hand, has Smith spent his budget wisely enough? ‘

‘We didn’t play too well (again) but we did have a couple of shots on target and a header which Jarvis should have scored. If Wycombe had their shooting boots on they would have got a comfortable win.’

‘We were lucky to get a point. The game was very even between two s*** teams and they will feel unlucky to have drawn. Our goal came from a massive error by them. Lucky point.’

‘Awful again. If it weren’t for Walker we would have been defeated heavily. What we need is a multi millionaire to come and buy the club and ground and actually invest in the team.’
