Wycombe bounced back from last week’s away day disappointment with a comfortable win over a lacklustre Grimsby side who in truth never looked like taking anything from the game.
A very much deflated home attendance figure witnessed the 1000th Wycombe goal stroked home by Gary Holt set up the victory before a double by veteran striker Scott McGleish sealed it with relative ease. The first being bundled home after the ex-Cobbler’s first shot came off the post and the second coming from Wycombe’s 4th penalty of the season after Matt Bloomfield was hauled down by Tom Newey.
Player Ratings
Frank Fielding – 7
Claimed every cross that came his way and when he was rarely called upon he did what was asked of him.
Russell Martin – 6
A quiet performance from Russ but his positioning does seem worrying at times.
David McCracken – 6
Still not convinced, his aimless forward passes are becoming a frustrating mainstay and often seems several seconds behind Leon Johnson’s reading of the game.
Leon Johnson – 7.5
Wont be dislodged when Williamson and Antwi return at this rate. Such a calming influence and his clearance off the line was very impressive.
Tom Williams – 7
Glad to see him return, seeing him charge down the wing and swinging in some impressive crosses is such a sight to behold at times.
Gary Holt – 8
*See ‘Star Man’*
Sergio Torres – 7
Never had a chance to really gallop in this game, his dedication to tracking back is admirable though.
Martin Bullock – 6
Seemed to drift fairly aimlessly yesterday, if he stayed in his right midfield position the whole game, I think we’d get a better return from him.
Matt Bloomfield – 7
Was brilliant in the latter stages of the second half, would have had a goal at the end if it wasn’t for Newey hauling him down and he would have deserved it too.
Scott McGleish – 7.5
Quiet at times but his unrivalled effort is so great to see..and if you can be quiet and nab 2 goals, then who’s to complain?!
John Sutton – 6.5
Nice touches and link-up at times, never seemed a potent threat though.
Stefan Oakes – 6.5
Was impressive in possession after he came on.
Reuben Reid – 7
Reuben running at a tiring defence in the later stages is always going to be a threat however his attitude is frustrating.
Little time to make an impact.
