Wycombe face competition for Davies

Following yesterday’s news that Reading midfielder Scott Davies has extended his emergency loan at Adams Park for a further 12 days, it has emerged that other clubs are in the frame to sign him for the rest of the season.

Reading’s caretaker boss Brian McDermott has told Davies that he will be using experienced players in the Royals’ fight against relegation and that he’s happy for the midfielder to continue playing elsewhere.

Davies has expressed his disappointment at Reading’s decision, but is grateful for their honesty:

“Ideally I would like to be in the team at Reading but at the moment that’s not going to happen. I would love to play a part in it and try and get them out of the trouble they’re in, but people have been honest with me and I appreciate that and hopefully I can crack on somewhere else,” said Davies, speaking to the Bucks Free Press.

Chairboys’ manager Gary Waddock would love keep Davies for the rest of the season, but the midfielder has admitted that other unnamed clubs are interested in signing him – perhaps even on a permanent basis:

“I will have to see what comes up,” said Davies. “If it’s a loan deal or if it means moving on to another club permanently, then so be it. If I have to move to carry on progressing then I don’t mind.”

With Reading no doubt expecting a fee for any permanent transfer, that would seem to rule out Wycombe, whose best chance of keeping Davies is a standard loan until the end of the season – an option that Davies hasn’t ruled out:

“Playing under Gary Waddock and Martin Kuhl appeals to me, they have been superb, but I will have to wait and see,” said Davies. “I will have to sit down and see what January brings.”
