A compromise has been reached whereby Striker Alex Revell will join Wycombe Wanderers on-loan from Southend United in time for next Saturday’s game against Bristol Rovers.

The Chairboys thought they had signed Revell on a permanent basis earlier this month only to discover that the deal fell foul of a rule which prevents players representing three clubs in the same season.

A Southend player at the start of the current season, Revell then went on a standard loan to Swindon Town, meaning he had officially represented both clubs and could not subsequently join Wycombe.

If he had gone to Swindon on an emergency loan, as Wycombe were led to believe, it would have been a different matter and he would have been able to sign for the Chairboys without any problems.

The solution means that Revell remains a Southend player and is just on-loan to Wycombe this season.
