Wycombe rumoured to have signed Alex Revell

Wycombe Wanderers are widely rumoured to have signed striker Alex Revell after his contract was terminated by Southend United.

Although it’s yet to be confirmed by Wycombe Wanderers themselves, reports in the Bucks Free Press and on Southend United’s official website suggest that the 26 year-old is about to join the Chairboys.


Revell first made his name as a prolific goalscorer for Braintree Town where he scored 35 goals during the 2005-06 season to help The Iron win the Isthmian League championship and secure promotion to the Conference South.

This earned him an £8,000 move to Brighton & Hove Albion, where he scored 18 goals in 59 starts.

He then joined Southend from Brighton in January 2008 for a fee of £150,000 and went on to make 43 appearance for The Shrimpers, scoring 4 goals.

In September 2009, Revell was loaned to Swindon Town, with Southend United Chief Executive Geoffrey King saying at the time: “Alex Revell has failed to live up to expectations. He was signed by the football club to deliver which he has not done and that’s why he is moving on.”

While at Swindon, the striker scored 2 goals in 12 appearances before the Robins chose not to exercise their option to sign him.


On their ‘Shrimperzone’ messageboard the Southend fans had a mixed reaction to today’s news.
