Wycombe: The Opposition View

Following Wycombe’s 2-0 victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane, here are some views from the Magpies manager and a few of their fans.


County manager Ian McParland felt that his side acquitted themselves quite well in the first half. Speaking to his club’s official website, he said: ‘It was a bit cat and mouse in the first half. We were well in the game although there weren’t many chances flying about. They don’t concede many and that is one of the main reasons they are top of the table.’


At half time McParland urged his players to stay patient and not make any silly mistakes, hoping, in his words, that they could perhaps ‘nick a goal’.

Sadly for the Magpies boss it was Wycombe who took the lead two minutes into the second half. ‘Once again we shot ourselves in the foot,’ lamented McParland. ‘ It was a killer blow’.

Having gone behind, the County boss wanted more from his side: ‘It gave us a mountain to climb, but I felt we could have done a bit more to try and get an equaliser.’ said McParland.

He described Wycombe’s second goal as ‘a great free kick’ which in his view ‘killed the game’, conceding that ‘They were a lot better than us in the second half.’




Most Magpies fans were more concerned about the plight of their own team, but a few had opinions about Wycombe.

‘Peter Taylor looks like he is working his lower league magic again this season. Wycombe looked half decent. Their passing was much more incisive and they seemed to know what they were trying to achieve going forward. They were much more organised and better prepared.’
