Following Wycombe’s impressive 4-0 victory over Macclesfield Town last night, here are some views from the Silkmen’s manager Keith Alexander and a few of their fans.

‘I’ve been in football a long time and last night was one of the most disappointing of my career.’ Alexander told his club’s official web-site.

He went on to say that he had ‘really fancied our chances of getting a result,’ but felt that for whatever reason, his side just ‘didn’t perform.’

‘We knew they would be on the rebound after their result on Saturday and they certainly played well, but we just weren’t at the races.’ said Alexander.

He felt that his side gave Wycombe too much space and added that ‘We gifted them one goal, but their second was was a really good finish. The timing of that one killed us.’

The Macclesfield boss finished by saying: ‘I’ve cancelled the day off for the players today…I won’t put up with more performances like that, as it just wasn’t acceptable.

The Macclesfield fans were superb last night and never stopped trying to encourage their side. They were also generous in defeat. Here are some of their views on the game.

The following extracts are taken from ‘The Football Forum’ and the ‘maccfans’ forum.

‘Wycombe certainly deserved their win. With minutes of the first half remaining 1 – 0 looked decent and I still had visions of us being able to come back, but the unstoppable goal from Balanta killed it. A disappointing night, but we`ll not meet many better teams this season.’

‘I thought we were very poor in all areas of the park this evening against a very good team who thoroughly deserved their comprehensive victory. In fact a seven or eight goal margin of victory would not have flattered Wycombe tonight.’

‘The scorer of their second goal Angelo Balanta, is on loan from QPR and is only 18 (so I’m told), don’t be surprised to see him playing in the Premier League in a year or two.’

‘Wycombe are a darned good L2 side, tight in defence, very useful in midfield and sharp up front. Unfortunately, we made them look like Brazil.’

‘I have no problem with getting beat by any team if we put in 110%. Unfortunately, last night we just rolled over & let Wycombe get on with it.’

‘We played badly and deep down I expected it. Wycombe have a very good side, I’d be shocked if they didn’t go up or at least make the play-offs.’

The Macclesfield keeper was arguably their best player last night, but still took some stick for his part in Wycombe’s third goal.

‘Step forward Jonny Brain – not content with already being on the advert for Ricky Hatton’s football C***-ups DVD, he is now getting his submissions ready for the sequel. Sorry, but if you call for it then come and claim it – take your team mate out if you have to, but don’t just let it drop between the two of you.’

‘Jonny will soon be able to bring out his own DVD, but we`ve had a decent little run of late and its come to a grinding halt away to the best team in the league who were smarting from a humiliating cup exit.’

It’s refreshing to hear opposition fans call us ‘The best team in the league’. The last time I heard that was in the Gorman era. Long may it continue.
