Following Wycombe’s 3-2 defeat at Aldershot on Saturday, here are some views from Shots’ manager Gary Waddock and a few of their fans.

Waddock told his club’s official site: ‘It was a game that was extremely exciting and we gave ourselves a fantastic platform to go on and win the match with the two goal cushion in the first half.’

He was quick to acknowledge Wycombe’s improved second half performance, saying: ‘Credit to Wycombe who got back into it. They are an excellent side but we have given a good account of ourselves. They put us under some pressure after the break and you expect that from the league leaders. It was a nervy ending to the game but we stood firm and got the result that I felt we deserved.’

The Shots boss finished by summing up the game as follows:

‘There were five goals today, we got three points and everybody is happy and above all it was a fantastic advertisement for the Coca-Cola Football League.’

The Aldershot fans were delighted with the result and the way their team took Wycombe apart in the first half.

The following extracts are taken from ‘The Football Forum’ and ‘Shots Talk’.

We ravaged Wycombe in the first half and could have been 3-0 up. Second half we stupidly tried to shut up shop and gave Wycombe the ball all the time, which resulted in the eventual well struck goal that they scored. They always threatened to score a second until Danny Hylton hit a beauty in the 88th minute. Then they scored a flukey second. Both sides played some good football, though it was soured by the level of gamesmanship persistently used by Wycombe (They were lucky to finish with 11 men!)’

‘Wycombe didn’t impress me at all. We totally outplayed them in the first half and the match should have been over after 45 minutes. Credit to them for never giving up in the second half though.

‘We hustled and harried them all over the pitch and everyone put in a massive effort today. Morgan was superb and should have been given a penalty second half. Very proud of the lads today!’

‘I did think number 28 (Balanta) was their most dangerous player and when he ran at Blackburn he caused us a lot of problems, took his goal very well too.’

‘Yesterday really was one of the best all action games I have seen at the Rec, it was cracking with rarely a dull moment.’

‘Taking into account the quality of the opposition, this has to be our best performance of the season.’

Jim Royle wrote:
‘For the first 40 mins we were awesome, never giving what is a VERY GOOD team a moment to settle on the ball. We won the game in that time, in fact four or five goals would not have been flattering. Second half they came at us and if I were to be critical, we sat far too deep.’

Pianist shot wrote:
‘Terrible decision by the Wycombe captain for choosing to attack EB 1st half. That sun was very low and right in the Wycombe players’ eyes. Definitely helped us to dominate the opening half hour!’

Matty wrote:
‘I thought we dominated them for most of the first 60 mins. We then sat back and soaked them up, with some excellent counter attacking. It should of been 4-1 with the stonewall pen.’

This week’s ‘What game was he watching’ award goes to Alex:

‘Their number 8 (Doherty) who played in the middle of the park looked way off the pace and I’m surprised he is playing at league two level. How old is he?’
