Wycombe: The Opposition View

Following yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Luton Town, here are some comments from the Hatters’ boss Mick Harford and a few of their fans.

Harford told BBC Three Counties Radio that Luton had put in ‘a good team performance.’

He went on to say that his side had ‘imposed themselves on the game’ particularly in the first 25 minutes of the second half.

The Luton boss felt that the poor weather conditions had contributed to what he described as ‘an exciting game’ and ‘a good game of football.’

Although admitting to some disappointment at not taking all three points, Harford said he was ‘happy with a clean sheet and a point’ from an away game at the league leaders.

He went on to say that in a game of few chances, both defences were solid. He was pleased with the way his own defenders had dealt with Wycombe striker Matt Harrold, who Harford described as ‘an awkward customer.’

The Hatters’ fans had plenty to say. Basically, they didn’t like our team or our support or our ground or our car parking or indeed anything about us with the possible exception of The White Horse pub. They were however very fond of themselves and 99% of their post-match comments ignored the football and instead concentrated on how they had out-sung the home support. Here are a few of their more moderate opinions.

The following extracts are taken from BBC606, ‘Football Forums’, ‘The Football Forum’ and ‘Luton Outlaws.’

‘Wycombe aren’t all that considering their outstanding start to the season Playing one up front at home, sending everyone back every time we got a corner, won’t exactly win any medals for being brave. Defensively they are solid enough, but their laboured passing game won’t break down many teams. Can’t see them winning the division playing like that.’

‘Fantastic point and performance from us! We deserved 3 points today and with a goalscorer we may just have got them. Wycombe didn’t look up for it at all and their keeper was poor second half. Our support was once again superb and considering Wycombe are top of the league they should be ashamed, poor support from them.’

‘4-3-3 is really working for us, only slight criticism of game is we’re not creating enough clear cut chances especially against a flat Wycombe side that were there for the taking.’

‘Superb not just from the support but from the team. We sang them into the ground and the players ran them into the ground.’

‘Some Wycombe fans seem to think they are already promoted, judging by today they don’t stand a chance, our patched side of youngsters battered them really.’

‘It was great to be there today, despite the lack of goals we ruled Wycombe in the fan department today. They even have the holy grail in these days of cr*p modern stadia – a small, terraced home end, but they were virtually never heard. Hate to see what it’s like there when they are doing badly!’
