Following yesterday’s Goalless draw between Wycombe Wanderers and Macclesfield Town, here are some views from the Silkmen’s manager Keith Alexander and a few of their fans.

Speaking to his club’s official website,Alexander was delighted to have taken 4 points from the top two teams within the space of three days.

‘It was an excellent point against a team at the top of the table. We created a few chances and defended well.’

‘You want to win and of course you want to score when you get chances but if scoring was easy, we’d all be out there.’

‘We’ve made big improvements since we were beaten by Wycombe at their place, we looked a lot more solid defensively. I like to play five at the back. You’ve always got a chance of winning if you keep a clean sheet and that’s two on the trot now which is probably our best run of the season.’

‘We’ve had two quick and fit lads up front tonight. They did a lot of running… Emile gives us that extra bit of pace which we haven’t had.’

‘We won on Saturday and I kept the same team, not just because of the result but also because I thought that was the way to beat Wycombe,’ said the Macclesfield boss.

Most Macclesfield fans felt a draw was a fair result but were surprised at Wycombe’s lack of creativity.

The following extracts are taken from ‘The Football Forum’ and the ‘maccfans’ forum.

‘Wycombe are just as useless as Brentford. Why are these teams top of the league??!! We gave them more possession than they could dream of, allowed them to play pretty little interchanging passes around the pitch and were amused by their clear inability to do anything at all constructive.’

‘Wycombe for all their good football didn’t create too many openings. You could see why they are top of the league by the way the move the ball around and the movement of their number Eight in central midfield. Doherty I think it is, looked a class player nearly as good as Arteta.’

‘I think a draw was a fair result. Very similar to the Brentford game, Macc were solid and had a few chances that could have won it. Wycombe were good at times but have just not got that finishing touch.’

‘One of those rare games – an entertaining 0-0 draw. Especially the second half. They played the better passing football (no surprises there) but we had more chances & and missed what looked like a couple of sitters.’

Sadly, they are correct. We are beginning to look like last season’s Paul Lambert team. Solid but pedestrian and predictable. Play-off standard.

It was Peter Taylor’s 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation that took us to the top of the league and made us look like champions-elect. Recent tinkering seems to have blown us off course. If it aint broke, don’t fix it.
