Wycombe v Brentford

On Sky

Wycombe take to the Adams Park turf again this Sunday and with the fixture being live on Sky and the well publicised Safe Standing day taking place too, there’s more pressure than ever for the Wanderers to perform.

Despondency seems to be becoming ever present amongst the Wycombe fans but in my opinion, the situation is far from lost. In truth, the 2-0 defeat at Chesterfield could barely be considered as a bad performance, sloppy defending and a goalkeeping gaffe didn’t help matters on the day but in another game Jermaine Easter and Scott McGleish would have stuck there opportunities away and fans would be raving for promotion with an away victory over a promising side just relegated from the league above!

With an impressive record in televised games, Wycombe will be looking for this to be a platform against unbeaten Brentford and push on to the promotion that is still far from lost. Maybe an overused example but after 10 games Hartlepool were languishing 17th before they stormed to automatic promotion and even play-off finalists Shrewsbury were 16th on Boxing Day.

You may see it as clutching at straws but it seems quite narrow minded that after a handful of below par performances fans are already writing off any chances of even a top half finish!

Wycombe Team News:

It’s the normal scenario with Antwi and Williamson still being unavailable for action as Tom Williams has been given the all clear after his concerning chest pains, he seems an unlikely starter though. Reuben Reid is now also in contention after training this week and could well be in for a cameo role off the bench.

Player to watch: Matt Bloomfield

The hard working midfielder is doing his best to rescue the sinking ship and if he leads from the attacking midfield role on Sunday then he could be the one to unlock the Bees’ backline.

Brentford Team News:

Veteran centre half John Mackie has been ruled out of this one and after 2 goals in his first 2 Brentford games, Ricky Shakes is very much in contention for a starting place.

Player to watch: Charlie Ide

A shining beacon in Brentford’s relegation campaign last season. Still very much a young gun and his pace and natural flair could mean a stern test for the Wycombe backline.

Match Facts & Stats

Wycombe’s last featured home match on Sky was of course the famous 1-1 draw with then Premiership champions Chelsea.

Sky also played host to the thrilling 4-2 victory against Leyton Orient in December 2005.

Brentford are unbeaten in the league this season and new boss Terry Butcher has only experienced defeat in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and Carling Cup.

Match Prediction:

It’s going to be tough but maybe the big guns will shine in front of the cameras and grab a 2-1 win after coming from behind.
