Wycombe Wanderers picked up a win in their first Errea Southwest Challenge Cup game yesterday evening.

The Chairboys couldn’t find a way past Bideford Town in normal time and had to rely on winning a penalty shootout 5-4 in order to see off the Western League outfit.

Matches last 80 minutes in this competition and there is no extra time.

Despite enjoying most of the possession the Wanderers were unable to create enough clear-cut chances to score and Bideford were able to comfortably hold out for a 0-0 draw.

Wycombe’s penalty shoot-out scorers were: Junior Lewis, Scott Shearer, Stuart Beavon, Matt Phillips and John Mousinho.

Shearer made the crucial save from Bideford’s fourth penalty kick.

Manager Peter Taylor used 21 players during the match and the line-ups were as follows:

First Half
Young, Moncur, Duberry, Johnson, Cobb, Fitchett, Montrose, Westlake, Zebroski, Harrold, Pittman.

Second Half
Shearer, Mousinho, Oliver, Lewis, Cobb, Daly, Bloomfield, Doherty, Phillips, Cort, Beavon.
