Gary Waddock has strengthened his squad with the signing of left-back Grant Basey who joins on a one-month loan deal from Championship side Peterborough United.

The 22-year-old full-back is set to make his debut against Walsall who visit Adams Park for a League One fixture this weekend.

He has been brought in to cover for regular left-back Andy Sandell who suffered a shoulder injury during the 2-1 defeat at Rochdale last weekend.

Basey began his career with Charlton Athletic, who he could face during his time with the Blues, and enjoyed a loan spell with Brentford before being released by the Addicks in the summer of 2010.

He was given a four-month deal with Barnet but was released in January 2011 and signed for Peterborough United on a contract until the summer.

He made enough of an impression at the Posh to be offered a one-year deal for the 2011/12 season. He has also represented Wales at three different youth levels.

Basey himself has said he jumped at the chance of joining the Chairboys and is looking forward to being involved in a first-team environment again on a matchday.

Blues’ boss Gary Waddock told wwfc.com: “He’s played at this level and higher so we expect to see some quality from him.”

“We’ve been looking to freshen things up and obviously there are areas we need to improve. We’ll continue looking.”

Basey will wear the No. 15 shirt and is available up to, and including, the clash with Notts County at Meadow Lane on Saturday 5th November.

Welcome to Adams Park Grant!
