Following Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 defeat to Cheltenham Town in a second round Football League Trophy tie at Adams Park in midweek, Robins boss Mark Yates couldn’t hide his delight.

He said: ‘It was an excellent performance. We didn’t start how we would have wanted but, after that, we were superb.’

‘From one to sixteen; they were all brilliant. We left a few boys at home for various reasons but that didn’t worry me because we know we have the boys to step in.’

‘Darryl Duffy’s first goal was superb but that’s what he is about. He was a constant threat for the hour he was on and he must have been a nightmare to mark tonight.”

“We were comfortable at 2-0 and we conceded a poor goal on our part if we want to be picky. Scotty (Brown) has made a worldy soon after that and it would have been a little harsh to have been pegged back to 2-2. What a great save and then we of course took one of the many chances we had to finish the game off.’

His opposite number Gary Waddock was understandably far from happy. He said:

“You can’t defend like that.”

“The scoreline, to be fair, could have been more than it was but we didn’t deserve anything especially when you defend that way, you’re going to concede goals.”

“I’ve said quite a bit to the players, but that will remain in the dressing room, it can’t continue but the players know my feelings.”

“There was opportunities given but how many took that opportunity? The run we’re on is a poor run, you can’t hide behind that fact.”

There weren’t many Robins fans amongst the paltry 931 crowd and not many have had much to say since. Those that have said the following…

It was another very good away performance especially in the 2nd half.’

‘To be fair we could have been 2 or 3 down inside 10 minutes but Browny made one fantastic reaction save. Second half we bossed it and ran out worthy winners IMO.’

‘Isn’t that so nice to see, the depth in the squad, that MY can make 6 changes and still roll a team like Wycombe over.’

‘An excellent result and all round performance by the looks of it. Agree with Rico, this is probably the first time the depth of the current squad has been evident.’

‘6 changes, an excellent result and potentially some players rested ahead of the Daggers on Saturday. This home game is where we must show that the last two results are not a flash in the plan.’

’15 year old Jordon Ibe! he must be half decent to be playing this level at his age, a name to watch maybe.’

‘As for the mighty Robins, well done lads another good result, let’s hope it becomes a habit. Looking at the team though it appears Birdy’s days must be numbered only making the unused subs on JPT night.’
