Lennon Nearly A Wanderer

When the headline ‘Neil Lennon reveals how close he was to joining Wycombe this week’ on Sky Sports News I had to rub my eyes a couple of times.

The ex-Northern Ireland captain who decided to leave Celtic in the summer was pursued in a number of secret meetings with Steve Hayes and has since said how impressed he was and said ‘it took a lot of soul searching for me to say no’.

This may be seen by supporters of other clubs as a slightly delusional attempt but it shows that the set up of Wycombe can match that of Championship clubs that were also after Lennon and the only thing that put him off is the fact that he didn’t want to play at League 2 level.

This shows the ambition of our club and the backing that Lambert has from Steve Hayes who flew around the UK just to talk to Lennon.

Hopefully this is seen by other potential targets we have and that this show of ambition draws them to us over other clubs that are interested. Mainly, Tommy Doherty who should see how close we were to signing his former international captain!
