Taylor’s Take On Shrews Defeat

Wycombe manager Peter Taylor spoke to the club’s official website following yesterday’s 7-0 home defeat at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.

‘We can only hold our hands up and apologise.’ said Taylor. ‘We were nowhere near good enough. Yes we made changes but Shrewsbury were bigger, stronger and better than us.’

The shocked Wanderers, who currently lead League Two, will have to bounce back quickly before they face Grimsby Town on Saturday. Grimsby may be low in the league, but will be going all out to impress their new manager Mike Newell.

Taylor feels his players will be up to the challenge. ‘The players will be fine.’ said Taylor. ‘They know they have let themselves down.’

He went on to say: ‘We will make changes for the game, people will expect that. The players won’t be feeling good tonight or tomorrow, they will probably find out who is playing against Grimsby on Thursday and they need to just get on with it.’

Despite last night’s trouncing in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, The Chairboys are still unbeaten in the League this season and have only conceded three league goals in nine games.
