The Opposition View

Following last night’s 7-0 home defeat at the hands of Shrewsbury Town, here are the thoughts of the Shrews’ manager and some of their fans.



Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson told the club’s official website :

‘I don’t think I could have asked any more of my players tonight. I wanted them to be totally professional irrespective of the team Wycombe put out. Just like every game we play – I want to win.’

‘I thought from the first minute tonight we were absolutely fantastic. The way we passed the ball about, we were strong, we were positive and our finishing was first class.’

Simpson went on to say:

‘I know the next two games we have against Wycombe will be very different to what we had tonight.’

Amen to that.

‘Best Town performance I’ve seen in, well .. decades! It must be said though that Wycombe were awful. Countless misplaced passes. Their game was summed up by one of the many restarts after we had scored – the ball was simply whacked towards the corner flag like a rugby team kicking for territory …. or respite perhaps!
Don’t let that detract from Town’s display though – notable (obviously) for the sublime finishing, but also for players who want the ball and move to receive it.’

‘Well, in 32 years of following the Town I have never seen an evening like tonight. 84 minutes for the League Leaders to have at shot on target at home. Total domination, with seven cracking goals. Sour grapes award goes to Peter Taylor, what he was doing laying into the Referee at the final whistle is beyond me. Perhaps he thought the Referee should have played more than 3 minutes added time to give them a chance to get back into the game.’

Perhaps their defence shouldn’t be as welcoming though. Although, walloped by us in the JPT I would expect them to give us a different game when we meet again unless some mental scars have been left.
